Ancient Greek Pots

We researched what Ancient Greek pots were like and designed our own.

We then used plasticine to practise different techniques before using the clay.

Next, we used clay to make our pots.

Happy Mother’s Day!

We enjoyed celebrating all the special ladies in our lives.  We shared Bible readings and songs.  The children also read their own poems and prayers.

KIC Theatre

We were lucky to have Ian from KIC Theatre visit us this week. He introduced our book for term 5, ‘The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers: And Other Gruesome Tales’, and supported the children in expressing themselves through drama. The children really embraced this and had a great session.

Ancient Greek Day

We explored how clever the Ancient Greeks were by doing some maths. We then learned some interesting facts and took part in a quiz. Next, we learned about democracy and how Sparta and Athens differed. We learned and played a game, which brought out our competitive sides! After lunch, we learned about Ancient Greek weapons and modelled their armour. We took part in our own version of the Olympics between the two classes, which ended in a draw.  The afternoon ended with some more games and question time.

Task Day 4

The theme of our fourth Task Day for ‘6 Ways to Wellbeing’ was ‘giving something back’.  We carried out a sponsored litter pick within in our local community.  Our aim was to raise money for the WWF by adopting an animal.

Science Week

We had great fun during science week.  Our first activity involved taking part in various activities led by our science ambassadors.

We explored seed dispersal using a balloon and confetti.

Dr Webb came to talk to KS2 about being a female scientist.  We learned about how she became a scientist and asked her questions about her role.

Ash Wednesday

Year 5 led an Ash Wednesday service in church.  Some children shared their prayers where they thanked God, asked for His forgiveness and for His guidance.  We then burned our prayers.

Book Week

Maple Class enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters!

We enjoyed learning about Shakespeare.  We read ‘Macbeth’ and enjoyed creating and performing playscripts.  We also wrote biographies about his life.

The illustrator, Gary Parsons, visited us on Monday.  He showed us how to create a front cover for our own book. He even drew Archie T.

Kerry Munn (a parent from Y5) set up her workshop in our newly appointed Art Studio. With her expertise, the children were able to create a meadow scene using acrylic paint. The skills they acquired enabled them to then create a micro meadow on a bookmark. The results were stunning and Kerry was extremely impressed by your children’s ability to listen, concentrate and persevere.
