What an amazing fortnight! Lots of busy bees in the Hive as always! Some of our children had a great time at paddleboarding last week and bravely ventured into the chilly waters! Lots of dance and movement with songs and rhymes – we still love our days of the week song best of all! We have practised sentence building using language through colour to help explore word order. Some of us have loved continuing to act out the Enormous turnip story calling out “Heave” at some very odd moments!! Lots of turnip craft with some super collaboration from some of us to stick and decorate our enormous turnip and some amazing observational paintings for our display. It’s been a busy time but lots of fun!

Some super learning this week in the Hive. We are continuing exploring ourselves, thinking about our senses and what we like and do not like to touch, smell, see, hear and taste. We have loved playing our Greedy Granny game which has helped us not only look at how many biscuits Granny is greedily eating, thinking about a balanced healthy diet, but with our waiting and turn taking too -it has been hilarious to play!
We have enjoyed The Enormous Turnip this week in literacy, thinking about sequencing the story and having a go at sentence structure to help the little Old Man call for help, using visuals in our speech bubbles. In music and movement we have enjoyed some gross motor activities to help strengthen our core muscles. We practised big moon walking steps as if we are in space – and then enjoyed looking through the telescope in our explore and challenge time, and as always have loved catching and chasing the bubbles, stretching high and reaching low – we tried hard to catch the really big bubbles before they popped! As always we have been working hard with our phonics and pattern and shape work in maths too- what a great week!

Another super week in the Hive! Lots of pattern work, looking at patterns around us, number patterns, shape patterns and patterns to group and sort by. We have loved painting paper plate faces using the mirrors, adding our hair and looking at eye colours- we think they look great! Some of us have have used our visuals to help complete fact file flowers all about ourselves, with our favourite foods, colours, animals and activities- for some of us donuts featured very highly in our choices for most categories! We have been practising recognising our name and selecting it from a group of names and some of us have had a great go at writing our names too- what super busy bees we have been !

What a lovely week we have had. We have enjoyed welcoming new friends to our space and continuing to explore our Autumn topic. This week we have enjoyed the Prickly Hedgehog and completed some hedgehog craft and fine motor activities too. We are still dancing to our days of the week song, marching on Mondays, turning on Tuesdays and my favourite – wiggling on Wednesdays! We have enjoyed shopping in our farm shop and setting up picnics inside and outside. Lots of fun!

We had to move our campsite inside this week as it has been so wet and windy! We have enjoyed using the binoculars to look out to sea to see what we can see! Lots of songs and rhymes this week with some great actions and movements!  We have been designing sandcastles, looking at patterns and shapes and counting fish and shells. We have enjoyed lots of sensory play with our pirate island and enjoyed mark making in sand and rice.

Under the sea- we have enjoyed exploring our under the sea book den, listening to stories, looking at books and of course wearing the goggles!

We enjoyed Goldilocks and the three bears this week. Lots of story spoon retelling with the characters. We had fun looking at different sized chairs, bowls and cutlery and had a good try at ordering objects by size. In our crafty times we made different sized bears and Goldilocks and talked about where our legs and arms are on our bodies!  Lots of bear maths,  counting groups of bears and completing bear dot to dots. We also had a teddy bear’s picnic and practiced sharing the food and taking turns- it was quite tricky!

The Gingerbread man was our story focus this week. We enjoyed making gingerbread man puzzles, trying to take turns in a gingerbread man board game and decorating our own gingerbread men! In our outdoor space we enjoyed exploring chasing games – although we didn’t like being ‘caught’! Lots of number games with dice and ordering gingerbread men to 20 in our maths lessons too and some of us explored fractions, starting with sharing gingerbread men halves before moving onto other shapes!
