Music

The children learned about ‘call and response’.  They learned to sing ‘Oo a lay la’.  Richie took the role of our leader, and started the call and response.  Some children were also chosen to use the glockenspiels to play the notes.

We revised the ‘syn co pa ta ta’ pattern.

We learned a new song ‘Biddy Biddy’ and clapped the pulse and rhythm.  After that, we looked at the pentatonic scale (do, re, mi, so, la).

We created melodies on glockenspiels and copied patterns.

Medic Fitness Training

The children enjoyed learning about the human body.  This included revisiting areas from year 3 regarding bones, muscles and organs.

We also learned about different emergency services and carried out some fitness activities.

Finally, we learned how to give CPR, which is an incredibly useful skill.

Friction

We used Newton Meters to investigate the grip on different trainers. The trainers with the greatest friction would be better on slippery surfaces.

Drama

We used drama to explore the story ‘Ice Trap’ based on Shackleton’s expedition. This included the Endurance running into problems and the crew rowing to Elephant Island.  We will use these ideas to inform our persuasive writing.

Collaborative Art

The children recreated artwork by working collaboratively.  Each group divided a painting into sections and then painted a section each.  They then put these pieces together.  The children were able to apply a variety of painting styles and techniques.

Macmillan

One of our lovely year 5 pupils has made loom band bracelets to sell in order to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity. This is an incredibly kind and thoughtful thing to do and we are incredibly proud of her.

European Day of Languages

Maple class enjoyed learning some basic phrases in Italian.  This including various greetings and the numbers up to 10.  We played games and created posters to show off our new language skills.

Art – Painting

The children have been experimenting with different painting techniques.  They explored dabbing, stippling, washes of colour, pointillism and many more.  We discussed each technique and why it might be used.
