Maths Week

We used Natwest’s ‘Money Sense’ workshop to discuss how to make sensible choices with our money. We discussed the difference between a ‘need’ and a ‘want’, deciding what were essential and non-essential purchases.

We also used our maths skills to crack codes. Some of us even created our own!

Harvest

We made harvest pumpkins.

How is Being a Christian Like a Harvest Pumpkin?

Just like a farmer, God picks you from the patch and brings you in to his house and kingdom.

He washes all of the dirt off of you.

He opens you up and scoops out all of the yucky stuff.

He removes the seeds of doubt, hate and greed.

 He plants only good seeds.

He gives you a unique smiling face.

He puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

We give thanks to God at harvest time.

Roman Day!

We have really enjoyed learning about the Romans this term.  As a ‘fab finish’ to the topic, we dressed up as Romans and carried out several activities.

We designed and made Roman shields.  We learned that the Romans only used a few basic colours and symmetrical patterns.

We also learned about how the Romans used mosaics.  We designed and created patterns of our own.

We finished the day with battle formations such as the tortoise, and lots of marching.

Vegetable Tart

We have been learning about seasonal vegetables and healthy diets.  We know that it is important to eat foods of different colours (a rainbow diet).

The children followed a recipe for a vegetable tart.  It included the seasonal vegetables: carrots, mushrooms, kale, and basil.

Arts Week

Year 3 have been using wax resist to create images based on the themes of architecture and community.  We started by sketching houses.  We then experimented how wax is resistant to watered down ink and watercolour paint.  The children used both wax crayons and candle wax to explore different approaches.  We look forward to sharing the final results!

Muscles

Year 3 have been learning how muscles work.  Skeletal muscles work in pairs to move the body. When you bend your arm, the biceps muscle contracts while the triceps relaxes. The biceps pulls the bones together, bending the arm. The reverse happens when the arm straightens.

European Day of Languages

Chestnut class were really excited to learn some Polish.  Bruno’s mother and sister kindly came in to teach us some basic language, including: hello, my name is, thank you and the numbers 1 – 10.  They even brought some money in to show us.
